Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Canacona in South Goa on Friday, November 28, to mark a significant spiritual milestone. In a historic event, the Prime Minister will unveil a colossal 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram, touted to be the tallest of its kind in the world.
This grand unveiling is part of the 11-day ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’ festivities, celebrating the 550th anniversary of the revered Shree Sansthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math.
A Monumental Tribute: The 77-Foot Statue
The centerpiece of the Prime Minister’s visit is the unveiling of the 77-foot bronze statue of Prabhu Shri Ram.
- Artistic Marvel: Designed by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar (known for the Statue of Unity), this statue stands as a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and engineering.
- Global Record: It is reported to be the world’s tallest bronze statue dedicated to Lord Ram, significantly elevating the cultural and spiritual profile of Canacona.
- Ramayana Theme Park: Alongside the statue, PM Modi will also inaugurate a newly developed ‘Ramayana Theme Park Garden’ within the Math premises, further enriching the spiritual experience for pilgrims.
550 Years of Spiritual Legacy
The visit coincides with a landmark moment for the Shree Sansthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, which is completing 550 years of its monastic tradition.
- Historical Significance: Established in the 15th century, the Math is a central spiritual institution for the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community and follows the Dvaita order of philosophy.
- Commemorative Release: To mark this historic occasion, the Prime Minister will release a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin.
Security and Preparations
Ahead of the high-profile visit, South Goa has been placed under a tight security blanket. The administration has imposed a temporary ban on drones and aerial activities in Canacona and surrounding areas. Thousands of devotees, saints, and dignitaries are expected to congregate at the Math to witness this historic event.
